Hello,

I am the proud owner of a 53 plate Multi JTD ELX. I bought it when it was poorly (broken turbo amongst other things) for £750 in February this year. I have fixed it up and now have it on the road.

However, I still have some minor problems that I would appreciate advice on:

ALARM: Having looked inside, some has rammed something like a screwdriver through the outer casing and damaged the circuit board. It still works normally but there is no sound. I have another box from a scrap vehicle which has a clean circuit board in it. If I was to install this circuit board, is there a way of getting my key to talk to it (or vice-versa)?

HEATING/VENTILATION CONTROLS: My vehicle is fitted with the air con/climate control setup. Today it started working on the auto setting which it had not previously done. If I turn the knob to 'Max Def' absolutely nothing happens. Also, the air con compressor does not engage when the button is pressed (I suspect there is no pressure in the system as a warning beeps on the little screen under the speedo when I start the car).

Any advice on these matters would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Ian

The bad news is that I have had two Multi's and three replacement air con condenser things. Each about three hundred quid. They seem very succeptible to impact damage from stones. However I managed to bend one when I welted an enormous badger and the bloody thing still didn't leak. Strange.

The only way as far as I am aware of getting keys to talk to the system is by Fiat delving in there with their computer and doing it for you. Sorry.:(

Yes, I am aware of this issue with impact damage on condensers. It happens when you design bumpers with gaping holes through them. I had to swap the condenser on my wife's Multi and, since it was necessary to remove the bumper, I mounted some boy racer style black ally grille mesh in there to protect it. No further problems so far.

If it is the condenser on mine, I will do the same thing. I happen to have a second sheet of the grille mesh in the shed (bought for my old Marea which had the same problem but I never got around to replacing the condenser). You can, incidentally buy a condenser from eBay for about £120.

It could also just be a case of the seals drying out a little and letting the system loose pressure.

I had the air-con 'service' at Kwik-Fit which was a actually pretty good. I'm not normally a fan of such places, but in this case the service was very good. They purge it then then leave it to 'soak' for a couple of hours to see if will hold pressure. As with yours, when I took mine in the compressor wouldn't engage becasue there was insufficient pressure in the system. After Kwik-Fits session it worked very nicely and has done ever since (about 18 months, so I think it may be coming up for another visit!). Not bad value for £40, as it was then.
