Tried last night to stop the clutch pedal squeak by lubricating all the obvious parts of the mechanism without success. So today I got more serious (see pictures attached). It comes from much higher up and the best way is to remove the heater duct. This is held in by one Torx T20 screw.

Once out of the way you can hold a torch and feel the pedal as you press it. This revealed a vibration from the pivot point which is hidden up inside a white casing. Note, It's not the coiled spring causing the problem. Now you can squirt spray white grease up on to the pivot. A few presses of the pedal gets it spread nicely and the noise disappears after about 10 operations.

Driving it afterwards is a revelation. I hadn't realised that the pedal was sticking as it generated the noise. Now it's a smooth operation and better to drive!

Wow my GP is nothing like that in the pictures.

What model?

1.2 8v; but I can't see why others models would have a different pedal layout. The views are taken up tight under the dash and the one with a pedal on show is the brake pedal with a view through to the clutch pedal mechanism.

11 Years later I did the same. Smeared grease everywhere but this was the solution. Wish I used google first!! :)

Great to see old threads still giving. That's exactly why it's so appreciated when folk post their solutions.

That's the original intent of the forums. You keep the number of threads as low as possible. And you give the solution/feedback.
You don't ask same (or similar) questions 500 times (car won't start, what type of oil etc.).
Moderators just don't get it (it's a worldwide problem). Almost all forums are littered badly.
This is a clown world. Grande section has >1200 pages !!!
Which is ridiculous, mental (one model cannot have so many separate problems, that's impossible).

Unfortunately not everyone posts a solution and not everyone takes the time to search existing threads before posting problems.

Kudos then to @OldEngineer for posting the solution and @AdamST205 for finding the answer in a 10-year-old thread.
