I have just purchased a Fiat Ducati 2.3 150bhp 66 plate, campervan, a Globecar Campscout with 60k on the clock it's just had it cambelt kit and water pump replaced. I have been reading about the EGR issues. I have no issues at the moment but only time will tell. Exhaust looks clean and a paper towel looked to have minimal if any soot. Should I get the software V32 done if I have no issue and will it help prevent the EGR issues.

The guy who had the van before me drove it alot across Europe he said he always keeps the rpm at 2000 if he could about 65mph on the motorways. Said he used supermarket fuel but 40k of the miles were in Europe and Turkey. I have the money to do the repairs if needed as I got the van cheap since it's lefthand drive with 60k on the clock
Thanks

I think your first course of action has got to be get a copy of multiecuscan Vgate BT4 dongle and a cheap windows laptop. then collect data and post it here or PM me. then monitor it once we know the answers to the Version and control parametrs that Ive adopted ( im still using mine as a guinnie pig to check all sorts of parameters
read some of my tutorials. Just be glad that so far youv'e got a clean one and none of that adblue rubbish.

This bit is from the main P401 thread

Short answer I don't know catagorically. depends on what version you have, before 28 and i'll say yes. (2017engine) I was updated to 28 within 2300 miles ie "new" March 2019. still very low miles 8000 (but wife is retiring April so may start getting a few miles on at last.) so my engine is good and permamently monitored. We do not know the real changes between the versions. V32 existed sept 2019 if not earlier. So i may be lucky and have got an acceptable Version, or V32 may be the only acceptable version or its the version that brings dirty engines back into line? It is the last version produced for these engines. (A member had his van refurbed the second time at end of last year with Fiat Italy technician overseeing and he still has V32.)
The demand comment is related to the data itself and not neccissarily due to load demand. @Fredastaire i think states that most (if not all) P0401s come on with a foot throttle backed off (no gas). always useful to hear other experiences. And get whatever data i can.
I think monitoring with MES is the crux of control as is monitoring the exhaust pipe. Injector vigilance with these motors is vital, bringing me to regular injector cleaner dosing or additive use (not excessive as this in itself can cause issues).

Well my thoughts were: Fiat didn't re-write the software because they had nothing better to do. Hopefully it is to stop a problem they have seen on some vehicles not just a VW cheat. If it's to stop a problem why wait to you have the problem and the headaches and cost that brings only to be told by Fiat, "sorry we can't help you haven't had it maintained correctly".

They was my thoughts and I had v32 installed 2 days before going on holiday.

Recently had my cambelt done At a Fiat dealer initially they did not want to plug it in but i had only booked the appointment based on them loading V32 The technician explained if there are no codes for the kit to read or a campain letter there will be no update. Mine was clear of all campains. It did throw up some BCM codes that did not return. A member from another forum had his updated (at same location and dealership) with a cambelt change, but it was first time it had been to a Fiat dealership. It was updated but no confirmation as to which version.
Are they (Fiat) waiting for problems to occur or is V28 the preventative or standard program and V32 the restorative. ie trying to resolve problems that have occured.
In the Ducato case we have software dealing with the build up of tolerances normally this would be done at the design stage and variable selection based on measurements or write the program to use sensor values , maybe more difficult to do this dynamicaly. We know there has been a number of iterations (for whatever reasons) at least 6 to my knowledge and we have a suituation where one set of variable A (V28) is not acceptable, produces excessive sooting so use another set of variables A ie V32. (an approach ive used as a manufacturing engineer.
Does anyone actually know?

If using any version of the software (even 32) I would still advovate the checks ive mentioned in the past

It will be interesting to see if you have any differences in logged data pre a post v32 software install.

I wonder if FP dealers just don't upload newer versions of software to save time/money!

I ended up Canceling my appointment to upgrade to V32 as I was full of Flu and said I would remake an appointment when I get the chance.
I have checked the Exhaust for Soot by Wiping a white paper towel and had a very small amount of dirt only no black soot, Stuck my hand in to feel about and it was smooth metal. I will be ordering the correct OBD2 bluetooth device and i will check my version number.
I think it will be a low number since its a end of year 16 plate and I don't think its been updated or it was not on the service print outs from the Fiat Garage it had its services done at.
The paper work for the services were quite detailed even including the temperature the AC got down to.

the only data i have of pre and post V32 is from engines with problems and have had work done. If yours has any data pre and post V32 i would be more than happy to look at it.
As to second comment i suspect its down to individuals and individual company policy.
The FP dealer i originaly bought the MH from had a policy of sticking every vehicle that came in on a tester if they had workshop time /space even if was to check various recalls/ campains had been carried out. (they were good , proactive but expensive and 200mile from home). I have heard the comment that the longest part of the job was finding a power suppy to connect to the van whilst uploading. Once connected the rest of the service/job can be done. Typicaly an hour. I was not charged for my test but a local FP wanted just shy of £1000 for same job i paid £740 for and wanted to charge an hours labour for testing. It possibly cost me £80 in fuel but i was a lot happier.

It should not be an issue but I don't have a windows laptop at the moment only Macbook pro and Android phones/tablets. I will have to see if I can pick up an old laptop cheap.
I will be doing alot of driving in the next 4 months as I am heading over to Portugal to drive around looking for a house. This is the reason we bought the Globecar Campscout.

My data which I have forwarded to you already is all post V32 install, sorry I have nothing pre V32.

I was told that all vehicles would be connected to their PC to reset the service interval and that it would notify them if an update was due. I guess it may tell them an update is required but they need not carry out carry it out.
