My boot locks bust, 40 quid for a new barrel (no way). a pal of mine reckons he can de badge and smooth the boot including the paint job for 120 smackers. i'm bit sceptical. has anyone had this done and have pics they can post on'ere. if your cars in broom then it'll help me even more, cheers guys

that looks great, i think my minds made up, i'm replacing the barrel. only joking havin it done asap. did you do that yourself? how did you get the first colour wrong?

theres a 2 way curvature on these boots. will take a long time to get right...

£120 is half what i'd expect to pay for a pro job :S

i'd do it though...

or buy one ready done? theres one or 2 about i think ?

you would do it for me? or you'd risk the 120 notes on getting it done. where can i find one already done for sale?

am i missing something?

You won't pay £40 for a boot lock but you will pay £120 to have it removed and the boot smoothed.....

wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy the new lock???

@steve - think its the fact that for an extra £80 he'd get a smothed boot. Rather than £40 just now then possibly £120 later on if he wanted to do it then.

I was thinking of just replacing the lock then thought to myself, "why, I dont use it, why waste 40 quid" and from the pictures in the link above, a flushed boot looks a whole lot better anyway. its something I've thought about since i've owned it.

so if you dont use the boot why waste 120.....? just leave the broken lock in and use the leave near the seat

waste 120quid, i think not. i meant i dont use the barrel but do the lever by the seat. like i said before i'd thought about it for a while anyway. i smell jerry springer

sorry chap I obviously got the wrong idea from your original post.

I thought you were complaining about the price of the new lock and that had made you decide to smooth the boot (which was more expensive) , not that you always wanted to smooth the boot and the broken lock was what sealed the deal.

i have alot of dents on my boot, and would be happy with the smoothing for that price.

i could smooth it for you but it will cost you more than £120 to do it properly. thats with a plate welded in skimmed with filler and sprayed.

as long as there were no dents i would be happy, they really get on my nerves and i swear i did not see them when i bought the car
