hi all
i have had my 2000 jtds ulyesse for 4 problem free years now ,,, BUT i think it is all starting now.. first the clutch went , now the alternator is going as the batterie light comes on the dash . but when batt light comes on the dash the heater cuts out :bang: anyone got an idea of what is happening .
andy.

Normally you will notice the system which needs the most current will stop first. Next time try turning the heater off and turn the lights on and see what happens to the lights.

Does sound like the alternator, happened to a Rover I had when I was in Germany for work. First the heater went, then the lights went dim and the radio switched off and slowly the engine started to stutter and then everything stopped. The RAC arranged a tow truck and a hire car which wasn't bad, but I didn't see the Rover for 3 weeks until it arrived back in the UK.

Only way to check a alternator properly is under load at the back of the alternator (i.e. alternator terminals) unless it has 'smart charging' & is PCM (ECU) controlled where you have to cut this out of the circuit. If you do go in checking the output voltage with engine running,be careful, your safety is more important!

thanks for that andy,,,the problem was the alternator and thats all good now :) but when they changed it they broke a diesel pipe to the fillter :eek:and it is now p###ing diesel out .
