Well I received the news that jjhepburn bought yet one more Uno today - for $100 (about 32 pounds) - it's a white 70SL, 1988 (Mk1). Has less than 120,000km (75,000 miles?). The engine came to a halt with a clunk. Previous owner suggested flywheel bolts sheared, but I agree with jj's diagnosis of a broken cambelt - seems far more likely. As it's 1301cc, it will have bent valves if so.
It's de-registered (=uneconomic to get back on the road), so it's apparently going to become a parts donor. Has the usual rusty doors, and... I wonder what else? May donate seats and trim to the 5-dr dark-red Uno project. I shall be getting some air vents and certain other parts for my Uno Turbo (my non-standard aftermarket air-conditioning heater is getting converted back to standard/fresh air). I'm gonna help strip it out tomorrow evening. Will probably have many good parts that we won't need all at once, but very cost-effective to have such spares on hand. E.g. a radiator that is going straight into the yellow Race Uno, saving $50...
I'm sure Mrs. Hepburn is absolutely delighted at the addition of ANOTHER immobile car to the driveway
This is the tenth Uno that jjhepburn has owned...!
It's come all the way from Auckland's North Shore on a trailer - at least I think it has? - talk about dedication.
Most of the metal will get recycled...
