Technical should I be worried? Hill holder unavailable?

Hi

My GF drove my car and tells me that it popped up with 'hill holder unavailable' for about 30 seconds and then went away. This is never happened with me. Is this the early signs of a bigger problem?. She tells me she was just driving straight at the time, nothing else.

If it went away I'd just ignore it as a bli tbh unless it's starts reoccurring regularly.

Then I'd start checking battery health.

Don't forget to blame your GP though

Hi there pal i have this problem with My car,, happens sometimes after breaking then after it's unavailable it goes out not sure whats wrong haven taken it to get checked as it goes out happens maybe 1or 2 times a month.. Haven't noticed any problems with breaking but when its unavailable the car will roll back after breaking where as if it was available it wouldn't for 3seconds ? hence hill holder hope this helps at all mate,,

Mine has done it a few times too, I just disconnected the negative terminal on my battery for an hour and it's not come for over a month now. Hope that helped mate

On our delta I've never seen that warning but the hill holder only ever works on a good day so I never ever rely on it, not a good piece of tech

Go to a garage and ask for a Diagnotic, it'll tell you whats wrong

Nothing to worry about, it kicks up a fuss if you jump on the clutch too quick after the brake or visa versa or press the brake and clutch at the same time etc. I too had this and was concerned but after reading about I can make mine do it on demand lol

Mine will only do it if I do something similar to what I described its easy for someone to release the clutch too quick or at the same time as the foot brake if they arent used to driving with it as it's hard to trust, used to happen to my dad

I don't agree. The hill holder is the first thing to complain when the battery gets a little weak. It isn't exactly a critical system either.

Weak battery = weak voltage = alternator / cable problem = Electrical problems

No weak battery or voltage doesn't always mean alternator or wiring issues. It could just be the battery is on its way out.

THere are two reasons for getting Hill Holder error messages, in my honest opinion anyway.

1. You start the car without giving it 1-2 seconds for all electrical systems to boot. Just twist the key once, give it a couple of seconds for all lights to go off, then twist it again and start the engine.

2. The GP has an ESP system where Hill Holder is part of. Ensure you have the right size tyres fitted, e.g. 205/45r17, different profile might affect the stability programme.

Of course I am not an engineer/mechanic and I may be talking nonsense, but I have been running my GP 1.9JTD since 2006 for 146k miles and number 1 was something I have experienced on several occasions where I was in a hurry. Number 2 was a suggestion by a Fiat mechanic.

If neither suggestion is applicable, I would too expect some battery issues and after eliminitating that, I would go the diagnostics route.

I get this appearing every now and then. Lifting completely off the clutch for a few seconds makes this disappear. Its never really worried me, seems to act as a reminder not to ride the clutch too much!

Fiat Punto Pop 2013 problem and solution!


Dashboard message saying ‘Hill Holder Unavailable’ - ‘ESP Unavailable’ - ‘Stop and Start Unavailable’.





I’m writing this because there was no definitive answer for this problem on any forum when i was trying to troubleshoot it for our car.


So one day our Fiat Punto Pop 2013 developed a consistent beep from the dashboard at start up and whilst driving. This loud beeping was accompanied by the following messages ‘Hill Holder Unavailable’ - ‘ESP Unavailable’ - ‘Stop and Start Unavailable’. We noticed that it mostly occurred at start up and when braking, but could not work out what was causing it.


I saw a few forums saying to check the brake light switch. (for those that dont know, this is a trigger like switch that sits behind the brake pedal and activates the tail lights when you press the pedal). I did some searching online and couldn’t find a clear answer as to exactly what the product code was for a replacement brake switch.





For the sake of anyone experiencing this exact issue for this model of car, the name and product code are:

Part Number: V24-73-0035





I purchased the part for about $50 from an auto store, and it takes literally 5 minutes to get down in the foot well of the drivers side, twist the old brake switch a half turn, unplug the cord and replace it with the new switch, and low and behold, it solved the entire problem! no beeping and no dashboard messages!

Hey, I've recently bought a used 2013 Fiat Punto 1.2 Pop, it was advertised with hill hold which doesn't seem to work, but I thought maybe they just messed up like they did with the cruise control (they didn't mention it, I was surprised to find it). I don't get any related error messages though. How can I check if the car has hill hold assist? Is it possible that this cheap fix is all it would take?
