how to short my LIFT UP REVERSE gear stick, on fiat bravo 1.2 2001year..

Only way it comes to mind is to make a new shorter lift up mechanism on the stick. The one that operates the reverse cables and then saw off the stick.

ok

aha i get it.. i thought to saw the original plastic part that pulls up the stick, and than also to saw the stick ..

if you take out that plastic sleave around the stick that operates the lift reverse you can cut the stick

the car still goes into reverse with it removed. i had mine out for a while when it was in body shop and that was just forward and reverse all day long.

just take ou tthe later gator and look the sleeve will just pull off.

yes but when i take it off, i can not go in reverse, can't pull it up ...

nooo take out the gator and there is a sleeve around the gear stick ( what the collar lifts) take that out. if i can remember correctly it is a white tube with a square blck at the bottom, take that out slide it straight off. then it will be a standard gear stick. no lift up mechanisim

the whole point of the lift up mechanism is because it is needed my old 1.4 couldet select reverse without it.

if you change gear knobs to a shallow one you can cut about 3 inch off if i remember rightly which looks a little better than a 3ft gear selector lol

why can you not read properly?? TAKE OUT THE LIFT UP REVERSE MECHANISIM. there is ntohign connected it is a platic blck attatched to a spring under the gear knob it slides up and the spring pused it down it comes out.

ok

ok thanks dude, but can you please make a short video, i dont want mess something up .. please

"why can you not read properly??"

Why can you not spell properly ???

So, you're saying that the lift up mechanism is not required to put the car in reverse ?

If so, WTF is it there for then ?? Decor-bloody-ration ???

Similar Roberto, its there only as a security measure so you dont put it in reverse instead of first. So you lift the plastic security part.

I may be mistaking - I didnt fiddle with the gear stick on the 1.2 bravo, but on other cars.

Yes, I understand that. On both my Punto and Seicento, which both had the reverse lift collar, you couldn't put it in reverse without lifting it.

Whether it still actually goes into reverse, I couldn't say because I was never that stupid to remove it or try to ram in into reverse without lifting it, which I'm sure can do the synchromesh or gearbox no good at all ;)

That is true, all Im saying I think it can work when removed, but I wouldn't do it personally - New shorter elements would be what I would use.

Just to confirm you can select reverse without the lift up on as i drove around for a few days without the sleeve on and had no problems selecting reverse as it is only a precautionary measure to stop you selecting reverse by accident

jop

yes, 100% i ve tried it, and it works, but i will do it otherwise, because when i take out the plastic part i can shift into reverse, but in 5th gear is a bit of problem ... i suggest to all to cut the plastic part

sorry for my bad english, i m not from UK ... thanks for help :!

and there you go roberto, dotn get all cocky and on your high horse unless you know for a fact , which i do because while my car was in body shop for 4 and a half month it was forwards and backwards all the time and the lift reverse was removed.

my spellign has no wory at me WHAT SO EVER. i may type wonkey but you still read and understood me so wheres the problem?

quote 'it is only a precautionary measure to stop you selecting reverse by accident'

OK, question has been answered and we're going nowhere fast.
