shocks

hi,
where is the best place for shocks? i've noticed about 2weeks ago that the ride wasnt as it should be.a mechanic mate of mine had a look this morning, the front drivers side shock is soaked with fluid.i dont want lowered one, just standard ones.i'll replace both front ones.
