Shifting Problems

Good Afternoon!!

My wife's 98 Fiat Brava is having problems with shifting into reverse. It happens more often now, but for awhile there it was hit and miss. Sometimes it would work perfect and sometimes it wouldn't. Now it seems to be a problem moving to reverse altogether. It grinds like crazy, and just sounds very unhealthy. I also noticed it has started to cause issues with shifting into 1st. I tried, with the car completely stopped, and the clutch engaged, I tried to put the shifter in all the different gears, and was very difficult. I did notice that if I was rolling to a stop and put the car in 1st as I was slowing it was easier to move into gear. Any ideas? I was thinking fo changing the slave cylinder first, and then maybe the clutch if that doesn't work. I need to figure out where the Slave is since I am normally use to working on Fords (US Models). Anyway, let me know what you guys think. Shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] or send me a reply on here. I will be back tomorrow. Thanks in advance. Later!!

Thanks for the help. I will try to see what I can do. If it is the slave cylinder, where can I get one? Obviously at Fiat, but they are always pricey. Any suggestions?

They only cost about £30 and wont take long to fit. Dont let FIAT fit it, they'll charge about £75 labour!

Buying Slave Cylinder

That's cool, but where can I get one? I am stationed in Germany, but I have a german address, so if it is available online, then I can have it sent right here. Just need a website, or some info on where I can buy one.

Thanks,

try www.shop4parts.com

if that fails, try ebay
