the problems with shell optimax are that it is designed for jap engines that are supposed to run on 97RON UL. Our european engines are designed to run on 95RON.

Optimax

According to Shell's website Optimax has the highest octane rating of any unleaded petrol in the UK at 98+ RON. Super unleaded is 97 and regular unleaded is 95 RON. I'm pretty sure it was the cause of my bad running problems. And it's more expensive than regular petrol by abot 4p/l so I'm giving it a miss from now on.

pug106

I havent tried optimax in my 1.6sx, and i dont think im going to. However i used to have a 1.1 litre pug 106, i used to put optimax in it whenever i could and it was a lot more powerful. It even started easier with optimax.

The pug had an ignition system that could advance the timing, i used to get an extra 5mpg with optimax so it was worth paying extra. It obviously works in some cars, but perhaps it doesnt suit italian engines.

Eh?

So why is it so highly recommended by Ferrari (a.k.a. Fiat) then?

on reflection perhaps i should have worded that different. I meant it just doesnt suit the mk1 bravo/a/marea engines. That doesnt make it a bad fuel.
