Technical Service token expired

Hi, I've not been here for a while and have looked around to see if this is a FAQ but no joy, so here goes.
I've just reached 18000 miles on a 59 plate GP Dynamic (old farts don't drive so much) and it's had the correct servicing by an independent as I plan to keep it until it dies.
I've just had a caption saying "Service Token Expired " or something similar and a spanner now sits in the display. Can I get rid of this or does it have to go to a dealership to be plugged into a computer?

You can't get rid of it with dashboard buttons - it needs to be cleared by a diagnostic tool.

You could take it in to a dealer or Fiat specialist to do (although I have heard stories of dealerships being unwilling to knock out a service light if they didn't do the servicing themselves), or you could do it yourself if you buy a FiatECUScan package.

I've seen on here people saying it clears itself after a few hundred miles sealey tools sell a Reset device but fes scan and leads works out about the same price and can do so much more

The warning disappears from the dash after a while, but it doesn't actually reset the service coupon. The miles to service stays at zero, so you won't get a warning the next time service is due.

If you reset it with FES, the counter adds 18000 miles (approx - I think it's based on the km equivalent) to the mileage of when the previous service was due, so if for example you leave resetting the light until 5000 miles later, the next service counter will show as approx 13000 miles.

Thanks for the swift replies. I like a challenge but I'm not sure I am brave enough to poke about with ECUs. I'll ask the dealership and if they're not helpful (there's always a first time!) I'll try to ignore it and wait for it to go away. I'm not bothered about service reminders, I tend to be early and never late. Thanks again, I always find help here, it's appreciated.
Incidentally, Juggers, it happened bang on 18000 miles.

I serviced our GP 3 weeks ago (dealer too costly IMHO and overfilled oil by 1 Litre whilst under warranty!). The spanner was due at that time as done 18k since they overfilled oil. The spanner soon appeared, and has now disappeared with us taking no action. I don't know when it disappeared, but it was about 2 weeks, or 200 miles or maybe 30 starts - who knows but it's gone anyway.
As a previous poster stated, the service in the menu now says 0 miles.

I'm sorry, I should have posted my results; mine, too, went away and it was very close to 500 miles after it appeared so it caused no problems at all. Now, if only politicians would do the same...
