Guys at the first MOT I had the Oil & Filter changed at 29,500 in May, the car has now done 36k now.

I don't think the Oil & Filter need to be changed so quickly as its only been 7 months.

What do you suggest ?

wait until 12 months then change it = )

Frequent oil and filter changes are VITAL to engine longevity- please say the 29500 mile change wasn't the first change?

I'd say, however, based on your annual mileage of 12k that yearly would be just about adequate in your case, assuming reasonable usage (not majority short runs).

For comparison, suzuki mandates oil and filter changes every 9k or yearly, and that's on non-turbocharged engines. However, both engines have timing chains which really, really dislike dirty oil. Hard usage halves that.

Thanks Ahmett, I agree however I will spend the money as required.

The MOT was done at the same time and they were pretty thorough, especially finding the small leak in the expansion chamber and replacing it.

The service indicator has come up, does that degrade the performance in anyway by telling the ecu to cut power ?

how is the service indicator coming on? isnt it set every 18k miles? or did you not reset the light last time.
as far as i know the service indicator is just a reminder, many times the service place i use forgets even to reset it = 0

Hi Zanes, no no no, first service was as per book at under 18k in fact, see worksheet attached (the bits from 2 pages), I was sold by their sweet talk for brake work... the abarth test drive was nice.

Ahmett, they did not reset the SI at the time as it was a oil & filter change. You are right its should be reset every 18k when the car is serviced.

Its only the Diesel Engines with DPFs where this can become an issue. Shouldn't cause an issue with the TA :)

Thanks and noted... I wanted your opinions in case I end up doing any damage.
Are we saying hang on till May with the Service indicator as is ? (May is 4 months away and we may be away for a full month anyway, so 3 months use).

Edit : I have removed the presumption about a possible sale, it was not the right place to say :(

Thanks and noted, this TA may come to you if the price is right for you & if we get a new one to replace it, but I wanted your opinions in case I end up doing any damage.
