I bought my car in May and it needs a service asap. Car has done 41k and is a 2000 trofeo. Last Service was November 2004 @ 28k. (i know its a long time ago but didnt own the car then) is it likely my timing belt will need done (a garage told me probably, don't know that I trust them)Also I live in Glasgow and could do with suggestions for reputable garages in the area, Thanks in advance guys.

Mattman :)

can't help with local garages (I'm in Birmingham), but common concensus on this forum is to change the cambelt at around the milage you have done and not to wait until 70k miles as it says in the manual

re:

cool, wasn't sure if the guy in the garage wanted more money outta me, this is my first Fiat.....Thanks

Hi what engine is it etc, also use:

http://www.fiatboo.co.uk/discounts.htm#nsracing

As a guide for prices etc, and get the tensioner done!

Fiat dealership prices are circa the following, HGT £590, 1.9TD (100) £125, 1.8 £135, 1.6 £115 and 1.2 £155.

I need my HGT done but can get it done for £340 with traveling. But other engine's arent a access problem!

I'm down in Ayr and just got an HGT although had a 1.2 80sx Brava for 100K! And a Punto, in my experiences there are very few garages who dont try to rip you off! (unless you know exactly whats what!)

I can recomend a good private one nr me who very carefully drilled out my bolts on my exahust and replaced them free of charge to save me getting a new cat when it only went in for a service!

Cool so your not too bad for a new cambelt etc fitted, mind give it a major service either yourself or in the garage if its been sitting for a while etc or not serviced in 2 yrs!

See service schedule etc at;

http://www.fiatboo.co.uk/run-a-bravo.htm

But all of that can be done yourself and get the garage to give it a visual inspection for leaks etc if a bit tight for cash after the timing belt etc!

You'll be lucky to get a 100TD done for £125. More like £250 at a dealer, with tensioner.

Some of us get the water pump changed at the same time as the cambelt saves on expense and peace of mind ,as cambelt would have to come back off again if water pump fails .

well its definitely due, or past due, so its a good idea to roll it into your next service.
Add about £150 to the price of a full service (about £100) And you'll have a car thats ready to rock for another year or more. after that your services will only be minor, so under £100 each year at a garage, or you could DIY for about £30 a year. Its woth getting it done at a garage this time though.
