Seicento speedo

Speedo isn't working and the engine warning light is on. Everything else works ie revs, performance etc.
It's a 2003 model.
I'm guessing the speedo head has gone? Any ideas?

Speed sensor usually on gearbox if that's duff the ecu won't be getting speed information and will throw up a fault.

Possibly the connector is sufering from filth ingress? And why not post in the Cinquecento/Seicento section?
