Hi all

Just bought this 'new' Uno from ebay. My very first car was a 70SX, which gave me the Italian bug and I've been driving Italian cars (Alfas) ever since. So I thought time for a bit of nostalgia, plus my son will be learning to drive soon ...not sure how these two competing interests will play out yet!

They're great cars, roomy and well designed, surprising how many seem to still be around.

Unfortunately they're a bit unloved as the Panda and 126 models seem to be more popular.

I've got a 1988 Selecta which my wife drove until 2001, It's a good car, perfect doors and floors but needs a little arch work. It would easily MOT but seems to be virtually worthless. I have all the bits to convert to manual so that's a possibility.

Check inside your boot for rust in the shock absorber mountings, if it's not too bad, paint on some chain or gear oil which will soak in and help to preserve it.

Good luck with it and have some fun.

Mine has only done 52k in 22 years but she must have been kept indoors while not being used as there is very little rust. There is some sort of underseal underneath, which has obviously made a big difference.

Biggest issue at the moment seems to be that oil is weeping from under the rocker cover so I guess I'll be replacing that gasket some time soon.

Other than that there's one paint scrape to sort out and the rear bumper is missing the support bracket on the drivers side.

Oh, also the brakes feel terrible but I haven't yet figured out if they have a problem or if that's just in comparison to my daily drive (Alfa GT).

Small world etc etc. The Tipo is still there, looking rather sorry for itself! It belongs to either a friend or relation of my car's previous owner and apparently has been sitting there for several years. If anyone fancies themselves as Inspector Montalbano this could be the car for them! ;)

It is a small world!

I was trying to do a deal on that Tipo, but it all fell through due to lack of communication. Probably best as I got the feeling it was worse than it looked..

Anyway, heres a pic of yours I took at the time! Slightly blurred as it was pretty dark.

Awww, thanks :)

Definitely think you made the right choice with the Tipo; I suspect it will only be good for parts.

And this is what blu petrolio (471) looks like in the sun.
