Re: Untitled

Sounds like the fanbelt needs replacing/tightening. Either way wont cost much and is easily rectified.

Re: Untitled

k, coz i had it serviced bout 3 months ago, and had new cam/fan belt so it may just be that that needs sorting out?

Re: Untitled

Is it just when it's actually starting as in only during the initial fire up ?
If so it could be starter motor, I had this and it got progressively worse until the motor packed up completely. Got another starter motor in there and it stopped it.

Re: Untitled

well its just as i have started it up, it does it mainly when engine is cold tho, if thats ne help?

Re: Untitled

If you hear grinding or simmilar - starter motor
If you hear squeeling - aux belt

Re: Untitled

I'd still go with the fanbelt. Mine does it occasionally but only for a half a second, if that.

It's not expensive to have it checked and replaced if needs be. I just havent got round to it yet and it doesnt do it very often.

Re: Untitled

its a squeeling rather than a grinding!!yeh its very brief, to be fair, it has only done it since the service, since i had both belts changed, took it back to garage so they cud hear it, n did it make the noise, did it ek!!sods law innit!!

Re: Untitled

Common fault.

It's the shaft of the starter motor becoming dry; both my HGT's and one Alfa have suffered from this problem.

Re: Untitled

oh ok, im well confused now, best bet to take it garage n hope it makes noise n go from there i guess!!

Re: Untitled

for starters take it back to where you had the belts changed, tell them it mainly does it when the car is cold. After the belts have been tightened or replaced then go down other avenues but logically and without hearing it, this appears to be a belt problem since it started after the service.

This reminds me, I'd better get mine sorted.

Mine does it sometimes too, but only when the belt is cold. nothing to worry about
