Hi Guys,

Anyone got any pointers on how to get rid of a scratch i have on my bonnet - its too deep for T-cut.
Cheers

hi wrighty985,if its down through the paint and wont t-cut then im sorry but you will need it repaired and painted, expect to pay between £100-£200 for this.Hope this helps you (y)

go to halfords and get a touchup stick, clean out the scratch and surrounding area. touch up the scratch so it fills the scratch and the paint layer is higher than the surrounding area. get some 1500 grit wet and dry, wet the paper and keep it wet, and sand the touched up part down until its all a matt red color, by now the scratch should be invisible. then all you need to do is either t-cut or use rubbing compound and a good polish to bring the paintwork to what it was:)

this should set you back £10 and a sunday afternoon?

cheers

sam;)

if its a large scratch i wouldn't use a touch up pen as i think it would look cheap and nasty, but if its a old car and not to bothered about its looks then use a touch-up pen.(y)..

if the car is lacquered then your levelling off will be level with the lacquer coat and your new paint will not have the same shine as it wont be lacquered. ;)

Agree with miff, it depends on the finish you want. A bad touch up attempt can be far worse than a scratch, i've had cars in, where there has been a minor scratch that later has been compounded out by me. Yet someone previously has attempted to hide it by appplying touch up with what looks like a 3 inch dulux brush :D . If done neatly as advised then it can look pretty good. As your car is a solid colour then it should be ok, is worth a try :)
