Scrapheap Challenge!!!!......

 I just said the same thing in the "whats everyone watching on tv" thread, so it would appear that great minds think alike! :D
I'm up for going on SC, quite handy with a spanner and I'll even be able to weld soon, I'm getting a MIG welder for xmas to sort the Capri's front end and the Punto's floorpan :D

well thats two, we just need 1 more :D im not to good with parts, but tell me what it looks like and ill get it :p also i can put stuff together, and i know simple mechanics, so ill have to be part leader/part scavenger :D

someone whos older, come on pete, gissa hand :D we need someone with experience :)

LOL!!!, i nominate pete aswell (y)

This team needs a fiat related name though

Guys, no offence to either of you but even the worst teams have pretty good experience with mech eng/mechanics in theory and practice. I am not saying you're not good enough but lack the age to have such experience, IMO anyway, feel free to disgaree and win it for FiatForum ;) That's just why I would never even consider it myself.

What about Dave, he's always doing cars up. There must be loads of people on here who'd be useful on the 'heap :D and I agree, we need a Fiat-related team name!

the meglomanics knew about as much as i do, i know how an engine works, i understand phyics, axles, suspension and i know a little on hydralics, but not the tecnical names, just what i figured out myself, what more can there be???

the only bit im a bit rusty on is engines, thats why we need a leader, or someone who knows!!!

have you seen the application form???

welding, cutting, sawing, joining, turning, general electrics, general mechanics, familiarity with engines, hydraulics and swimming!!! most of these you do @ GSCE!!!!!

i really want to go on scrapheap, but agree with paul, i reckon you do need somewhere around pete's knowledge to get on there.

maybe in a few years.

if there is an FF team, i want a ticket to see it being filmed

Ah, I dunno, lets face it, everything they make is just bodged! If you've got an idea about how cars work and how to strip them, then you're sorted :D

well ive built and stripped many MODEL cars, a real one cant be much different. :D

but no i did my work experience at a coachworks, so i know how to dissassemble cars AND mopeds (tho in SC, id thought youd just smash it off!! :D )

I'm alright at wordwork and soldering, don't suppose that's much help to you. I know how an internal combustion engine works and even how the wankel rotary engine works, but wouldn't recognise most of the parts if I saw them first hand.

Well best of luck then!

I have done plenty of prac work (grandfather is ex mech eng) but I still would never consider it (also the lack of welding practise would stop me!).

Probably although that has happened less this year :(

I have done a fair bit of prac work (people often thing because I can do the theory they don't think I can do prac, I have often got my hands dirty in the past) - the only problem is that although I like making things (remote control keyless access system for a house including intelligent alarm, automatic locking, fire exit system etc., erm, my alumnium laptop stand etc. etc.) but I would never consider myself qualified enough to go on a bodging program, I reckon even Pete would question himself with his level. I have the benefit as I have said that my grandpa is ex-mech eng and ex-RAF chief engineer (at the pinnacle of his career he supervised the loading of possible nuclear weapons to Valiants) and has always taught me various parts of basic engineering from a very little age (internal combustion age since about 8 years old for example!)

Anyway;

welding - never. cutting - everything from steel, aluminium to brass including the shaping of. sawing - who hasn't?! All types of wood and some metals were necessary. joining - Some :S turning - none, never has the oppotunity, if i wanted something I asked my grandpa's friend. general electrics - yes, general mechanics - I would say some even if people on here would disagree :p familiarity with engines - mainly theory based hydraulics - all theory based and swimming - good swimmer! lol

Must have done similar stuff to my dad. He did engineering in the RAF, but never saw fit to pass on his knowledge. He then worked in Saudi Arabia on aircaraft engines, after leaving the RAF. I remember he got court marshalled for dropping a bomb he was supposed to be loading, so must have had some similar responsibilities.

no no no! lol i hope you didn't misunderstand, I have no way the experience to go on that show! I would be laughed out!

You have to have serious experience I still say! Maybe in 20 years time :)
