Rules on custom number plates?

Does the first letter have to be the same as my current one, so my S reg, would it have to have S*** ***, for example, i would like S999 SEB but they only have other numbers, like T999 SEB

you cant make a car look newer than it is.... so if u have an "S" reg car u can have any letter before an S including an S
