Hi,bought a 07 Grande Punto dynamic 1.2,8v. When driving at 60 mph, revs are at 3000,70mph is at 3500 rpm,is this normal in 5th,tyre size is 175/65/15. Sounds like it is over reving, but might just be me.

Hi,

I have a 1.2 2006 Active and your rpm's are identical to mine, from what I've read, this seems perfectly normal.

Thanks

Generaly speaking a small engine needs to run faster than a larger one to produce the same output: it breathes less air / turn so is able to burn less fuel =>less power.
The 1.2 is rather small so your figure seems correct...

Get some new headers, free flowing exhaust and a nice shiney inlet with better plenumb chamber... will burn more air / fuel, more power - less rpms (if done right and mapped correctly, if the system isnt a self learner / adjuster)

Exactly, that's called engine tuning ;-) ...

The various sensors should detect this extra air amount and the ECU would adapt the fuel quantity accordingly, resulting in a little gain in power.
All other things (gear and differential ratio and tyres) kept as original, the car will feel more responsive.

That is not how gearboxes work at least the non-CVT ones.
Even auto gearboxes have a stall speed where the engine speed is locked to the wheel speed through the torque converter.

The rpm'a are fine. it's a petrol engine.. and the 5th gear is usually about the same ratio for all normal small passenger cars.

Hi Aurick,

I think he meant more power, @ less revs...

Of course you're right, revs would NOT decrease if other things are kept unchanged !
