General roof bars?

Hi, Bit of a newbie question here (and you can probably expect many more i'm afraid..)

I have a 1990 750L and i'm wanting to put roof bars on it - it has those small 2cm rounded plasticy rails running along the length of the roof - they don't really look like anything could grip on to them particularly well -are they for mounting roof bars? if so, what sort of mounting am i looking for?

Nope, they're for hiding the seams. Roof bars were an option but not many about and it does involve drilling holes in your roof I believe.

that little groove that runs the length above the windows isn't enough for something to grip on to i'm guessing? would rather not drill holes in it!

Probably, suitably massive gaps to play with above door and rear window

Some 4x4s came with roof racks from the factory, i am sure someone will have the brackets available or a roof rack. Post a wanted ad

Fiat did you a genuine roof rack, I'm lucky enough to have one for ours, and it has rubber pads which sit over the roof tracks you talk about and clamp under the door frame and rear side window frames

Doesn't need drilling. It's only the longitudinal bars that need drilling, not the roof rack.

Sisley/treking type roof rack do use 2x cavity nuts (located between roof rear edge and tails gate top) for the rear and two clamps around roof at door openings.
