I guess this is a tricky one, as you could end up with people owning 25yr old Novas fouling the roads with no tax.... after all if it wasnt for tax i'd have a few other cars... well and insurance too but thats fixable with any car policys.

But i think landrovers, proper ones should be tax exempt, over 25 of course! (y)

realistically any car thats road worthy @ 25 years tends to be enthusiast owned

Agree! It was always originally intended to be a rolling 25 years but when the bill came round the politicians of the day feared that eventually people would get free road tax on more modern and practical motors as the years went by, thus pegged it at 1973 or before.

Think about it... if introduced now every thing before 1982 would be tax exempt including the X1/9, 924 and even the MkII Cavalier / MkIII Escort. My first car was a '73 MkIII Austin 1100 which even in '87 when I got it had serious corrosion issues... if your brave enough to own, maintain and use something like that as a daily driver I would gladly salute you and hand you free tax discs (y)

being that i own a classic beetle i've signed that.. Although mine is already exepmt. There is also another petition to move the cutoff date 10 years rather than making it a rolling 25 years if anyones interested
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ClassicRoadTax/

edit: i'd recommend that people just have a look through petitions on there, I think most people will find aone that they would like to sign, for example raise the national motorway speed limit to 80, scrap speed cameras, cancel humber bridge debt and reduce tolls to name but a few and they're just from the transport section..

My Stag isn't Tax exempt. It should be though, it is a classic. Mine's like this one, proper 4 seat open top cruising, Yes.
