RMS when bridging

How do you work out the RMS when bridging an amp? i know you can just add the peak powers together but is it the same with the RMS? looking at a 4x 50 RMS alpine amp for running my infinities which are 90wRMS

assuming you do add them this amp will give 100WRMS giving 10W headroom?

It may do - it depends on the amp in question. Some 4 channel amps will do much more than twice their RMS wattage bridged.

the amp will run the speakers ok as its better to have to much power than not enough

If it's an older V12 Alpine then you'll be looking at around 120w bridged.

50wRMS x 4 @ 2 ohm / 14.4V
40wRMS x 4 @ 4 ohm / 14.4V

i think my speakers are 4 ohm, but is it possible to wire them to show 2 ohm?

just found the manual on Alpines website

bridged gives 2x 100wRMS at 4 ohm
