Hi guys, in about the last 2 weeks our 96 1.6 bravo has started to rev it's self quite high when starting from cold in the morning. The only thing I have done to it latley is change the spark plugs, also it has a K & N 57i kit which is 1 year old. Any advice will be appreciated.

Exactly the same thing happens to me. Besides when it gets warm it keeps idling between 900 and 1200 and its getting on my bloody nerves.

The only solution is to get the injectors cleaned which I hope will solve the problem.

Re: Re: Revving on start up.

Sounds like you need to clean your idle control valve (look in a haynes manual - tells you where to find it).

Re: Re: Re: Revving on start up.

Yes, but I cant seem to locate mine.

Mk1 1.6? Black cylinder thingy, about the size of a 35mm film can, mounted just after the throttle body on the manifold.

arrrgghhhh I have been looking a that thing for ages!!! the bloody haynes manual shows it different on the photo.

cheers Tom.

Just remember 'simply remove' and 're-assembly is the reverse of removal'. :) I love haynes manuals!

Thanks guys i'll give it a try. Sorry my reply is late but i've not been on line till today. Also do you think it might be a good idea to put some injector cleaner in the fuel tank as well.

Problem Solved!!!

I have finally removed the Idle Air Control Valve and guess what....it was filthy!!!....after cleaning it the driving has improved so much...its unbelievable what an effect it had!!
Alec, its good to use an injector cleaner now and again, but the cleaining effect is only temporary. Proper injector cleaning requires dismantling.

Re: Problem Solved!!!

Proper injector cleaning either requires taking them to bits of chucking them in the bin. :)

Some of the crap that gets left by petrol just refuses to come off.

Re: Re: Problem Solved!!!

I suspect that injector cleaning liquid does not actually clean the injectors but I believe that at least it does prevent petrol from leaving dirt deposits in the first place! I think that it is a good idea to use the injector cleaner once every 6 weeks.
