General Reverse Light (+ Live wire)

Hi,

I'm trying to locate the positive/live wire that runs to the reverse light so I can power a reverse sensor setup.

I opened the boot, removed the plastic boot catch cover, took out the spacesaver polystyrene & found a set of wires heading out to the bumper.

I took out the reverse bulb holder to see if i could locate which wires belonged to it & which was the live to find that its covered in that black fabric wire cover or plastic tubing + there wasn't much access between me reaching up through the gap above the exhaust & the reverse bulb cable length.

Back to the wires in the boot, I'm not sure if these wires belong to just the reverse light as the fog light & plate lights are all concealed in the bumper area.

Anyone got any ideas?

Did one of these myself and it was not easy. In the end I had to unwrap all the black covering. I found 4 possible wires going to the lights and with a lighter burnt off a small amount of the insulator, just enough to get a meter on it, and sourced it this way. Unfortunately I have sold the car now so can't say what colour it was. However, further info - on the driver side if you remove the plastic trim that sits on the inside where the boot lid sits and then remove the driver side side cover (only partially) there is a grommet that you can feed the wires through. I mounted the speaker under the plastic trim by the rear seat belt, Bumper is fairly straightforward.

Got it setup, as you said, just would prefer it, if someone had inside info or currently has a feed off the reverse light or feed off any of those wires so that I can either pick the right one or eliminate some of the others before I start burning/crimping all the wires

if its similar to the GP (i know the reversing lamp and fog are in the lower bumper)

remove the reversing lamp bulb

use a meter on the center pin and earth on the car then you have narrowed it down to 2 wires (not overly helpful i know ) then rather than using a lighter use a scotch lock and use this as a tap to get your meter onto it and work out which is which..

I pick up the reverse wire (sorry cant remember wire but as Andy said its one of 2) at the offside rear quarter where there is a large piece of foam and cut a piece of off it...perfect to mount the parking sensor module
