Hi All.

Does anyone know how to replace a fan belt on a fiat stilo 2.4 Abarth. My local back street garage tried but no luck sayin he couldn't fine no tool and tried his best. Pleeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase can someone help as mine has really frayed away from the edges and needs replacing. Fiat quoted me £200.00 to replace it.

Thanks

Dee :)

Hi, do you mean the belt that drives the alternator? if so the belt is a special from fiat, part number 46758804 " stretchy belt " Would help if you had 24mm swan neck ring spanner to pull over pulley.

auxiliary belt adjustable tensioner can be easily moved to put a new belt on:
using a wrench (think its number 19? a very odd one.. all i remember is that i had to spend 30 min looking for it): fix it onto the upper adjustable tensioner bolt (lower bolt fixes it to the engine) push UP on the wrench – this will rotate the tensioner anticlockwise while pulling it DOWN to release the belt (you will need to be fairly fit to move it far enough to put a new belt on)

ps: as stilo do not have a belt actuated fan (but an electric fan/motor) i assume (as everyone above) that you are in fact referring to auxiliary belt

Hi
Thanks for all the replies. Yes its the belt no: 46758804 that drives the alternator that my garage had a problem changing. He fitted the bigger belt within 30mins no probs. He said he was going to cut it off first but didnt want to damage anything. Does a strechy belt just pull over onto the pulleys without actually removing any of the pulleys which is what i think the mechanic at the garage was doing. Look forward to replies
Thanks

Dee

Hi Dee, the belt for the alternator must be pulled over the pulley, the 24mm. ring spanner fits the nut that holds the pulley on the alternator. You will need to turn and push the stretchy belt on, mind your fingers, its tight!! Buy belt from a fiat dealers spares dept. they are the only ones that have the correct type of belt. It might be a good idea to change the aux. belt as well, this has to come off first, but this belt is not a problem having its own self adjuster. good luck

Thanks for your reply embee427. you've been a great help. i've already got both belts from my fiat dealers and like you said my aux belt has been changed with no probs, good thing too because it was completely worn just about. right so a 24mm ring spanner. I will take my abarth back to the garage next week and tell my mechanic. Keep you updated.
Thanks :)
