removing middle console

I want to take out the centersection of the dashboard and spray it red.I had a book from the library which indicate 5 screws:2 near radio 1 behind the blowadjuster and 2 just above the cigarette-thing when I remove the 5 the section doesn't come loose what am I doing rong?

Need to take switches off first

The row of switches below the vents need to be unscrewed as well. Use a screwdriver to pop off the covers at either end of the row of switches and there are 2 screws behind these. Undo these, disconnect the switches and take out the row of switches and then the panel ought to come out.
