Did this model originally have a remote locking key-fob as standard?

Bought car a few months ago & came with 2 identical keys that operate doors/ignition manually. There's a dark round thing in roof which looks like an infra-red sensor. I've still got an infra-red key fob from an old Xantia I had which I'm guessing is pretty much the same system, as no transponders involved in key. Anyway, I've tried to reprogram it to car with no success. Immobiliser code pad is completely dis-connected so no problem there, unless this plays a role in remote locking?

So, could someone confirm whether or not this car would ever have had remote key? If it did, how do I get it to work?

Many thanks, David

yes it did have remote central locking and they are simular keys to that of the xantia (not sure if they would work though??)
when i got my car the remote didn't work and i put new batteries in and reprogrammed it by putting the key in the ignition turning to position 1 and pressing the buttons on the remote, then take the key out and it should work.
if you have any problems i just followed the 306 infra red remote reprogramming proceedure, these can be found by searching on the net.

p.s not sure if the immobiliser pad has anything to do with it working or not as mine doesn't have a pad they had done away with it on the 1997/98 model
