I had detected a small reduction in Murf's performance
and over a few days he had stopped being so eager to start either in the cold mornings (I didn't blame him) or when hot. Not a big deal but i know he can do better.
So he got a mini-service:
1. Plugs gaps OK but plugs a bit sooty.
2. One tappet a little wide, one slightly closed-up and two OK.
3. The throttle cable needed the special grip bolt to be slackened and re-adjusted as it had lost about 1cm of movement either by stretching or slippage.
4. The points gap was very narrow and couldn't be adjusted...the plastic heel that runs on the cam was worn down. They've done 12 and a bit thousand miles from new!
After replacing the points and re-setting the timing and with all the other adjustments all seems well.
It just goes to show that even a regularly used and constantly molly-coddled Fiat 500 can quickly lose its edge.:bang:
