Ive never had bad service from a fiat dealer they have always fixed any problem ive had within the same day. The service I got at Skoda was abismal it was part of a 3 part franchise they sold VW AUDI as well. They coudn't even tell me what was wrong with my brand new 05 Fabia vRS when the brakes locked on randomly. The guy was cocky and said it had something to do with my driving and then had the cheek to charge my £95 for a brake check up. Ended up being a servo failiure and got it fixed under warranty and my money refunded the whole process took 2months!.

Well as far as a technician is concerned as far as the car performs correctly and does 70mph thats it! Example...customer says "I get steering wobble at 80mph",I say "sorry sir but I can only test drive it to 70mph & no more" thus I care not for top speed of a vehicle.I (hand on heart) cannot tell you the top speed of any Fiat correctly (I can guess/estimate) does that make me a bad technician?

I have a receipt where the problem is recorded as "Investigate why the vehicle will not go beyond 90mph" Throttle ped. was the problem and now its fixed.

Does that make that tech a very very good tech? :D

Maybe ;)

Push away mate(its a very good point)...however good intentioned the tech was he has been no doubt told on nuerous occasions at training courses/seminars that you do not driver over speed limit,do not try & find rattles from boot area with apprentice in the boot, risk damage to customers car etc

The F.I.R.E engine may be an older design, but compare it to modern offerings from other manufacturers for specific output per litre for both torque and power and see. I know of noone who has experienced bad service from a fiat dealer and i work with 3 ex fiat employees, i know of at least 10 people who own newish (02 on) fiats and are all completely satsfied with the performance of the dealers and the quality of the cars, also if someone came into our showroom and asked the top speed of a car they would probably raise a few eyebrows

Been looking at this thread and the comments about Fiat dealers. One of the many roles I had was selling Garage equipment, the likes of oil pumps, vehicle lifts, MOT bays etc. Anyway, as part of this role I had to visit a number of dealers and workshops around the country and what was really noticeable was how crap some Ford, Vauxhall and Rover workshops were. Talk about dirty, poor lighting, poor use of space and having to work in a barn!

As I remember at the top were Jag, BMW and the Japanese franchises, Jag and BMW certainly believed that cleanliness was next to godliness and that engineering had to be treated like surgery, dirt or 'contamination' within a component can seriously damage a car.

Fiat were not far behind. Most workshops were clean, to a corporate standard and above all most technicians believed that the product overall was good. Compare that to a visit to a Vauxhall dealer whose service manager admitted Vectras were a good money maker for the workshop.

Anyway, buy Ford but not only will you have a car that is no more reliable than a Fiat and in a lot of ways badly screwed together and more likely to fail but you may end up having it serviced in a shed that's worse than been under a railway arch. Another worthy point is that Fiat sales last year fell by 50% and that has made Fiat strive harder to improve customer service, Ford and Vauxhall don't have to sell cars as much, many are leased or bought by people who still do what their dad told them " buy Ford, good cars". On that basis they are good earners and so the same effort into aftersales doesn't really need to be put in because there are plenty more owners out there.

Point taken Hellcat, but there are plenty of dodgy places under railway arches, if I remember rightly there's one on Albert Square run by a dodgy geezer called Phil:D

Was at a meeting last week & big strides have been made & are being made as we speak....I know some of you wont believe this but it doesn't happen overnight!

Very true....I spent good few years at Ford & it was unbelievable how many customers would come in & buy a car (being more interested in the colour) without even seeing it let alone seeing what it was like inside! Fleet buyers as you say would buy loads of cars but one thing I have noticed is lots of councils, hire car companies now buying Fiat...also Fiat do quite well in the mobility market.

and the top speed of a car is not as you hae indicated "a kids question" as this is an indication of the cars proformance and that applies to any car as all cars are sold on factors like safe/speed/refinements

Would bhp not give you a better indication, or even the engine thats in it as alot of performance cars seem to be electronically speed limited, as i know my old puntos top speed was quoted in the book as 97mph, but i know people who've had there's over that.

Dont get me wrong i found alot of garages in general cant tell the difference between a 1.2 8v the common engine about 10yrs old and the 1.2 16v when the two are completely different engines. But that was not FIAT but mainly other independants who wrongly label there cars to get more interest.

And yes i too have had the occasional bad experience from my local dealer, but in general they've been pretty decent.
