How do you remove the reflectors on the rear bumper? Got a spare rear bumper and I'm looking at doing what Ben B had done to his rear bumper and smoothing it. Will they be needed come MOT time or can I get some to stick on then remove after the MOT? How much would I be looking at for a respray of the bumper?

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

I think you will need to pop them out as currently they are hard plastic.

A respray in expensive bournemouth will be around £200 - not sure where you are.

I'm pretty sure you will need them come MOT time but some people just stick on reflectors until it's passed then remove them again afterwards.

Spraying over them is the easiest and cheapest. Respray of a bumper, including filling up of the old holes will be atleast £100 to £150.

Yes they are required for the MOT, but you can stick aftermarket reflectors on for the day or what will more than likely happen is the car will pass anyway as the MOT'r will prob think they are built into the rear lights anyway.

Obviously dont forget about the legality of things. 1. Its illegal. 2. Your car wont be seen till the last 2nd on an unlit road. 3. If someone rear ends your car (there fault) they can use the removal of the rear reflectors to their advantage.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm in Kent, i got a rough quote of £150 for my new HLX front bumper. I dont know whether the back would be more or less. I'll go get it from the garage when i get home and have a look.

Chris

Well if the front bumper is £150 then its gonna be more for the rear bumper as it'll need filler, preping, etc.

Wow. Seems bournemouth isn't always that much more than other places for things like resprays :)

I was planning on doing all the filling and smoothing my self then hand it over to be sprayed.

Thanks
Chris

Chris, you may do all the filling and smoothing, but a good body shop will still give it a once over themselves to make sure the finish is good otherwise the paint will look cack and their reputations are at risk if the finish isnt good

what body shop is it out of interest?

Its a place called Panel Pride I think. Its on the Ellingham Industrial Estate in Ashford. Have you got any suggestions on sprayers? As your not to far from me.

Chris
