Hi all, It's looking increasingly likely I will require a recond engine for my 2013 2.3 multijet Ducato. Has anyone any recommendation of where to buy one or any potential pitfalls to avoid?

Any input would be gratefully received.

Hi, where abouts are you. We are in somerset and there are a few local places that recon either your old engine or offer recons for sale. EBay are pretty good and there are company's like 24/7 spares online. It all depends on your budget really. I'm on the look out for a 2011 2.3 but have been advised that although other newer engines fit its a lot of phaffing around to change them over and your better off getting something that matches your original. Either way it's not cheap as I am finding out lol, hope that helps 🙂

I'm in Glasgow, I have spoken to someone from Engine Swap in Kent, and have been quoted just short of £3k for a recon 2.3 jtd engine(just hope that is the correct one), with £600 refunded if the original engine doesn't have cracks or holes in it on return to them. I'm hoping by some miracle it is saveable I'm just waiting on the garage calling me back to tell me what the diagnosis is! 😟

I put my reg in the good old Internet and it gave me an engine code for my vehicle. Mines an F1AE0481D, its definitely worth finding out before you buy other wise you could have been load of extra costs for the swap over. Breakerlink is another company that have sent me some quotes but the have all been 2k and over 🤦‍♀️. Fingers crossed your engine is salvageable. What happens to yours if you don't mind me asking.

I will check that right away for the engine code thanks for the other company.

I was on the motorway and the engine just stopped, I have a feeling the timing belt has gone. The annoying thing is I asked the garage it was in for its MOT to have a look at the timing belt as it was nearing 90k miles. They said nah it will be fine for another 30k

Oh no pretty similar to us really, we had ours serviced and they said it will be fine. We have no compression after we broke down on the motorway. Everyone keeps telling me how bullet proof these engines are lol. Hey hope you get sorted soon and don't have to take out a 2nd mortgage to pay for it all.

Just an update on this, I have been given an estimate of £5.5k for a reconned engine transplant with a 4-6 week timescale, I couldn't wait that long so headed off and got a 2016 Multijet 35 which is very clean all around and drives great even with 115k on the clock. There are a couple of little niggles with it that I will be asking about the most pressing one being the rear barn doors not locking with the rest when using the central locking fob.

The engine failed on my 2013 Ducato130 last year with 94k on the clock. I purchased a recon engine from Engine swap in Kent, and had it fitted by my local garage.Engine cost about £2300 as far as I can remember, removal and fitting cost about £1500, that included 2 injectors replacing and testing/coding, new oil pump, belts etc.
Did have a problem with recon diesel pump leaking, but it was replaced with my old pump and I was suitably compensated by Engine Swap for the extra garage labour charges.
Communication with Engine swap was always excellent, and any problems that cropped up were always dealt with amicably and to my satisfaction. Engine runs well with no problems.
