Hi there,
I am trying to fix a friends fiat stilo 1.6 16v 2002. Shes had a lot of issues with the lights malfunctioning and bulbs blowing particularly on the rear light clusters. I started pulling everything apart to see what is going on and found a bodge wiring job for a tow hitch. She doesnt use the tow hitch so I want to wire back to factory standard to hopefully get her lights working properly. Im no mechanic but do tinker a bit.
● Basically brakes operate different bulb positions on the left and right rear cluster, generally top bulb on passenger side bottom bulb on right.

Sometimes one light works and the other doesnt, sometimes they both come on,
● Rear indicators dont always work.

Ive attached a photo of the wiring I found, can anyone tell which wires should go where? Im going to remove the black tube looking thing and its wires as they relate to the tow hitch but that leaves a few unconnected thin wires and the elearn disc I bought doesnt show me how it should be wired (or I havent been able to find it).

Most of the wiring there is non-standard, starting from the red and blue wires at the top which I'm assuming are power and ground. The white box is a relay panel which looks to be taking a switched feed from the cluster connector. The only standard bits are the looms that are wrapped in black fabric tape; not sure what's going on with the red and black cables in the bottom left corner. Where do the lead to?

red and black ones go to the other side light cluster. Looks like that will have to come out aswell. Is the white block with the thin wires hanging out of it standard?

No, the white block is an aftermarket relay kit which I'm assuming takes power from the thick red wire at the top and then feeds it to the trailer lights when there's power going to the standard cluster connectors.

I would removed everything attached to the white relay block, cut and insulate the thick red and blue wires, also the yellow and red going to the cluster connector as well as any going to the other side. Then check if they've messed with any of the ground cables. If you're unsure, take it to an auto electrician!

Cheers, I removed the whole lot and now the lights are all working fine again. Thanks for the help
