rear disc brake conversion(work in progress)
okay before we look at the rear brakes,lets look at the fronts.
you must upgrade to more powerful front brakes(not just upgraded discs!) before upgrading the rears.
a rear brake bias is very very dangerous!!
so assuming you have upgraded the front discs with the likes of the punto gt set up we can look to the rears.
so what will you need?
well 1st of all you need a set of rear calipers from a donor car.they have ot be rear calipers as you need the handbrake part of the calipers which front calipers dont have.well apart from a few cars but your unlikely to be using those
suitable doners are cars like punto GT's,uno turbo's,alfa 155's etc
uno turbos use 228mm discs
punto GT's & alfa 155's use 240mm discs(same as a standard cento front disc)
IF you can locate a full uno turbo rear beam then its the easiest upgrade.
simply fit the uno turbo rear plate,hub,disc and caliper.
fit a lengthened rear flexi hose to reach the caliper
connect the handbrake cable.
bleed and bed in.
now if you cant locate an uno turbo rear set up then it involves a little more work and can get a bit complicated with various set ups
you can use the uno calipers and back plates on cento hubs ,however you need a spacer of 6mm thickness between the hub and disc.then its the same as above.
you could avoid a need for a rear spacer by machining down a cento front disc 240mm to 227mm and it will fit.however its an unknown set up as it may weaken the brake disc.
so if you cannot locate any uno turbo parts......................
use the calipers i mentioned before(eg punto gt,alfa 155 etc)
use the cento hubs
however you will need to get a set of spacers machined up like these
please not picture not to scale!
also you will need to fit a punto gt handbrake cable and again extended flexi hose.

This will provide 257mm front discs and 240mm rear discs.
The front installation is bolt on since the discs and calipers go in place of the originals and all holes line up perfectly including the offsets.
This is the stock 186mm drum brakes.
Remove the drum brake assembly, you may want to save it in case something goes wrong.
Remove the original wheel hub.
Install the caliper supports.
Install new wheel hubs.
Install the discs.
Connect the brake lines, insert pads and bleed the system.
Install the new handbrake cables.
Tie the handbrake cable along the original location.
This is the finished result.

- Lancia Delta HPE front discs
- Fiat Tempra 1.9TD with abs rear calipers (240-10-40)
