I had the same problem on the near side with the earth having burnt out, melting the multi pin connector and essentially disconnecting the earth by melting it off the plug. It looked like someone had crushed the pin in the plug at some point causing a poor connecting which then arc'd out over time and did the damage.
I ended up soldering an additional earth onto the light circuit board - they're just metal channels on the plastic back plate to the light cluster - fed that through to the car and soldered a new bullet connector onto the car side of the wiring loom, so the earth is on it's own bullet connector and properly insulated. I removed the earth from the multi plug on the cluster and just plug it in as normal to the light unit, it just now has a slightly separate but still able to disconnect earth connection.
Not ideal but they're odd pins that you can't easily obtain and having melted the connection on the circuit board a new pin would have been useless anyway.

If I understand you correctly, the steps I need to take are:
- Solder additional earth wire onto the light circuit board
- Solder new bullet connector onto the car side of wiring loom and plug in separately.
But how will I be able to plug in the separate wire along with the connector (the connector takes up the whole space)?
Why don't you just get a new cable connector block with about 6" of wires still attached from a breaker and then splice that in to your wiring (having cut off the old connector block?)

The wiring plug in my connector block for the earth side was crushed, so I cut the earth wire off, removing it from the connector block and added a bullet connector.
My additional wire from the light's circuit board and cutting the wiring from the connector block and bullet connecting them together bypasses the wiring plug.
The connector block on my car had melted as a result of arching and the lighting circuit board had been damaged by the heat too, so was the best fix available until I get source a replacement plug and light unit from a breakers.
