Help...i have a 1.2 16v sporting punto and on starting i have a rattling noise in the engine....it seems to come from the belts....took it to fiat spent £400 and they said it was nothing....rattling goes after about 1/4 mile and only re-appears when cold...any ideas

Hei.

It could just be the timing belt. Does it have a plastic cover? When the engine is cold, it is "smaller". Eh.. anyway, after driving a couple of km's the engine is hot and some (metal) parts may have expanded due to heat - and as a result, tightening up the timing belt. Try to listen to the timing belt cover (if there is one, if not this reply was propably not very helpful) when starting up cold. I experienced this on a Ford Mondeo. Nothing to be worried about if this is the case. Anyway, it might be as Dave says - the timing belt tension bearing.

Morten.

Heat shield! That rattle like buggery if they come a bit loose. I thought mine had something to do with the cambelt cover as it only started happening after i had it changed. Found out it was the haetshied just above the manifold
