I have a Fiat Panda mrk 2 (1991) with a working radio however because the car is the same age as me it only has MW and LW. This is a pain as i am getting bored with Radio 4. i was wondering is there are any radios/CD player that have fm and are still inkeeping with the car?

I'm guessing that the later models (1994, 1995, 1996) will, and you could get one imported, as the MK1 Panda was made in other parts of the world up until 2000!

Alternatively, a trip to Halfords would solve it. :) Just buy a CD/Radio and fit that, it will be fine. :D

I was pretty lucky and my neighbour gave me a radio she had kicking about, turned out to be a pretty good Alpine unit cost someone £180 back in the day (it still had the box with price on it)! I've attached the post from when I fitted it. I'm sure you could pick up similar ones on ebay for next to nothing. Or ask your local police station where they hold their counties "lost" property auctions they always have hundreds of car radios. Lost of course...

But! More importantly, to cheer myself up I decided to replace the rubbish radio with the awesome oldschool Alpine FM/tape head unit a neighbour gave to me ages ago. A few bullet connectors later and hey presto, pretty slick huh?!

That radio is soooo cool, especially in the dark, very retro. Looks great with the rest of the Panda buttons :)

Very few if any Pandas were sold with radios in the UK. Hard to say what a "standard" radio for one would be. Mk1 & 2 Pandas were made until 2003 in mainland Europe.

My tip would be to go round a scrappy and choose the most retro one. Very few radios that have survived the scrapping of the car will not have FM these days. Your radio is older than your car I would have thought.

Good find...

Thanks :) I actually like the look of it myself and being 'the right age' I still have loads of cassettes that I made up in the good old days before CDs &iPod connections
There's this one too, which I think is of a similar vintage; it says Honda but it's made by Blaupunkt

There are some companies that will convert your original (ie: classic/vintage) radio to FM/MP3, etc Looks good (y) Looks expensive!

I'm suprised that a 1991 car has a radio that DOESN'T have FM, especially if the radio is the same age as the car. I think every radio I've had, including the Harry Moss radio cassette fitted in my first car (a 1979 Cavalier) had FM! I suspect that the radio fitted was either much older than 1991 or was incredibly basic, because nearly every 1991 and onwards radio I've seen had FM.

As for being in keeping with the car, just get a modern CD/ radio unit. They will fit fine (Fiats of this age were designed to take this shape/ size of radio anyway) and they don't cost much. Plus, in my opinion, they go rather well with the dashboard that is quite a modern design to begin with (y)
