Good Evening All.

We have just Acquired a Dethleffs Globetrotter Premier A Class, and I'm doing some work on it as the Alternator Toasted its Self 100miles into the Journey Home.

While Im doing this , which is a pain to get at but not the worst Driveway Job I have done, I Thought I would do the Timing Belt & Tensioner & Pulleys as although recently done, the garage that carried out the work for the previous owners didn't do a good job and instead of removing the upper engine mount to remove the timing belt cover they forced it off and broke it into three pieces, lost one piece and split the main body of it for about 8 ".. So it all has to come off to do the cover anyway.

To top it off the drain pipe from under the cab internal heater matrix rubbed through on the cam pulley as the top corner they broke off , exposed the pulley..

So in light of that 'cobbled' job , I'm doing the timing belt etc again as they didn't replace the tensioner and I have no faith in any of the documented work they did.. Im also doing the Cam Seal, Cam cover Gasket, Water Pump, and AC idler while I have it all apart. Anyway I digress.

While underneath I have noticed that the aforementioned Radiator Support Crossmember is in slightly worse condition than the submerge bulk head of the Titanic... and so it is now off .

My question is does anyone have a part number for the cable clamp that secures the Starter Motor Feed Cable from the battery?? The Crossmember is easy to find but I can't find a mention for the longitudinal metal 'clamp' that bolts down on to the crossmember and secures the Cable ?

And so while I am asking about that and I take the support off , The A/C system seems to have not been a Factory suppled system , but an Eberspacher , at least this is what I have deduced from the sticker on the upper slam panel, and as such the Idler isn't standard and neither is the A/C Condenser , and I can't find part numbers for either of these to items, both of which need replacing!

Any Help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Regards Si

Hello,

You should be able to find it on one of those diagrams:

The link to the online forum ePER is available in the bottom of the forum banner.

Now this is interesting , because i have a 2000 , x230 , and my clamp is plastic . Actually i have two mounted on the cross member , just under the intercooler , with a further clamp again plastic on the lower inner wing body .

Now in all honesty I simply reused the clamps , by replacing the inner rod , so i can't give any part numbers . However on a vehicle 24 years old , i would largely expect these parts to be no longer available anyway .
In my experience , once a vehicle passes 10-15 years old , most manufacturers will cease production of most parts . The exception to this is if the vehicle received a revamp using the same floor pan . It's highly likely some parts will be used in the new vehicle , and so will remain in production until such time as that model passes the 10 year barrier . A good example of this is the series 2 , 2.8 tdi , becoming the series 2 , 2.8 jtd . Now an odd ball here , is the series 1 , 2.5 , and series 2 , 2.8 engine blocks are basically the same as well , the main difference is 2.8 was bored out an extra 300 cc . Many internal components were utilised in the new engine . However don't be fooled here , the top half is different , in some cases total so .
Once the 10 year barrier is passed , you are left with remaining stock , and generally plastic parts are the first to disappear . This then follows through to weaknesses in the original design , and so those most likely to have had some repair work . It should not be forgotten , that it is possible to source some pattern parts , and this will be the case with the cross member .
Plastic clips as we know , are weak , and so the most likely to break , followed by exterior plastic body panels . These have the added benefit of being affected by the sun as well , and finally dash components also due to the sun , but also heavy handed owners . To back up this statement , i have tried to source some brackets for my power steering , which proved fruitless , but then it was pretty much as expected . Now i do have a secret weapon here , recently i repaired my front bumper , and to do that , i learnt the professional way to plastic weld . The point of my mentioning this , is that i now largely repair these parts myself , and have even modified some . I also decades ago learnt to modify , and scratch build model kits . So i awakened that skill recently and have scratch built other parts for my van , generally interior parts , but i have also made the odd bracket for under the bonnet .

My advice , would be to start looking for something similar from another model , possibly another manufacturer . Personally i would start with looking at newer Ducato models , My guess is they may have a similar system . Another avenue is to take a look at Alfa Romeo , Maserati , or one other whose name escapes me now . They were all part of the Fiat motor group , pre 2019 .

It's what i call thinking outside the box , something i developed to run an older motor .

Ps i also own a 30 year car !!

That's why finding the part number is necessary. It will allow to find the part even if it was used in a completely different model. Or sometimes also by a different manufacturer.

Ah right , well i've just had a look , actually i'm glad i did , i found a couple of tools under the nearside wheel . Dunno how long they being there , as i''ve been painting today .

Right , back to the job in hand . I was wrong , i actually have four clips to hold the starter cables , and cooling fan cables in place .

Using your last PDF diagram 55527/00 , cable set fixings . I have 1 x 1308663080 , mounted on the lower inner wing , and 3 x 14631887 mounted on the front cross member . Is that of any help to you .

Oh and by the way this is a year 2000 , Fiat Ducato x230 2.8 intercooled tdi , 1.4 chassis . It's also a Hymer 584 , but i doubt that will make much difference .
