quick question on T-Cut

I have an metallic Ivory brava and the paint is looking a bit tired. If I were to T-cut it before polishing it, would it do the paint any damage? Basically is T-Cutting a car with metallic pain a bad idea?

Long answer on T-cut

Basically T-cut is a mild abrasive that removes a layer of paint from your car. To get a really top class finish, you would need to do the whole car so it all looks the same, then start putting a big layer of good quality was protection on it to try and stop any further damage.

It can be used on mettalic paint, but if I was doing it, I would try tp find an out of the way spot and try it out first, cause it can be damned hard work.

T-Cut will not really do metallic paint a lot of good (metallics rely on a lacquer to make them glossy: the paint is naturally matt).

However, T-Cut make a product specifically for metallics, which is presumably less abrasive.

Metallic Cutting Compund

If you really need to do it then ideally you should make up a really mild cutting compound. One I have used in the past is 1/4 Metalic paint T-Cut 1/4 Liquid Car Polish (It doesn't matter which one but I use MER) 1/4 water and then - and this is honest - 1/4 malt vinegar.

Make sure the car is really clean first then use a quality sponge in a circular motion, rinsing often.

If you use up and down motion you will **** the light reflection of the laquer.

Then, as has been mention use a very good quality wax to protect the finish, such as Autoglym or MER bascially not a minute wax.

Oh...and wash your hands, they will stink!

Do not use on any are that the laquer has been punctured though such as a stone chip as the mix will get under the laquer and you will end up in a mess.

If I were you I'd get a body shop to flat and buff it. (bearing in mind that my paint job is not metalic)
A freind of mine dose this for mates for £15 but for a proper paying customer he charges £35
