Hi,

Some lovely person decided to bend my door back to break into my car and I've managed to bend it back into place and it shuts fine etc but its letting some water in when its raining so wana get it sorted... my only worry is about the use of keys etc, if i buy a new door is it possible to swap my key mechanism from my old door to the new door so that i can use the same key?

any responses would be appreciated. cheers

Yes very easy to replace the lock, its held on with a metal plate that pulls off, then the lock will come out.

How would you re-attach to the new door? Weld?

How else can you re-attach the locking mechanism etc if its just a metal plate, does it have bolts or is it welded to the door is what I meant.

Rick, the door comes off realy easy,2x10mm and the check strap,if its the punto in ur picture though ...finding a door the same colour will be a basta&D !
might look the same when u buy it,but once fitted will probably look like black and white, the lock has a clip around it that just pulls away from the barrell,is ur door proppa nact?,if you get a secondhand one, then the rear quarter and wing will have to be blown in to match.oh and when u fit it,put some making tape on the top corner of the wing and also on the back edge of the wing, more so on the swage line(above the repeater) as its very easy to scratch the new door.
ive found out the hard way.

hope this helps

Richie

Yeah the doors are **** to get off, I realise that finding the same colour car as mine is going to be very hard so I'm just getting any colour door and will get the entire drivers side sprayed so it matches.
Cheers for the info
Rick
