I don't think you'll notice a huge difference betqeen the early 136hp and later 130hp version. What I would do, is look for one which has low miles (8k /year?), one owner and doesn't have a big pipe and dump valve! As for performance, I had 1996 136hp version and it would out drag a 24v Probe and run dead even with Merc E320 up to about 110... plenty fast enough (for me at least). However, my one overriding memory of the car was the 3rd / 4th / 5th gear overtaking power (50-70 in 3rd in 4.2 acccording to Autocar's test) - I've driven a few 'quick' cars since then and I honestly have never felt any one of them (subjectively) push me back in the seat the way the punto did on full boost (1.6 bar 'overboost' briefly). Have fun (and don't molest it with 18" Rubber - it's so nice to see an original one occasionally!)

Here come da judge...

Sounds all good, why would a dump valve be bad, I would get one from trade anyway so 9 times out of 10 would be near enough standard.

ive gota vtr so would i feel a big difference on that? id wana go for the 137 bhp as its bigger by just a lil,im very interested in low miles too, so yeah i no where ya coming from there.

But as opposed to a VTS wich i could also get, much difference anyone??

cheers all help is fantastic

ive got a series one (136bhp) punto and i agree, they are loads faster than a vtr, clearly faster than a vts (0-100 in 19 secs in a punto as opposed to 25 in the vts) mines running around 170Bhp and is stupidly quick, i love it! honestly though i would go for a newer one with low miles, they have nicer interiors, air bags, and more reliable engines, and lets face 6bhp is nothing in a turbo car.

Brrrrrrrrrrm Tish, Brrrrrrrrrrm Tish, Brrrrrrrrrrm BANG, s**t.

ive just got a 1995 m reg one and its a 60k minter in white really fast only thing is the power steering is too easy especially on boost with a bit of tirque steering
great car though

That's great news, and if it's a 'minter' as you say pleeeeasse keep it that way - no 19" wheels and dump valves - when you come to sell it it'll be worth so much more if it looks like it just came out of the showroom! You'll also appreciate how rare these things are getting and that clean standard ones are virtually non-existant(!).

Also, White is great colour in the long term - it looks good when it's 10 years old - doesn't show stone chips or scratches to much and says 'bright' even after many years.

Best of luck with it! You've got a highly underated little car there.

I've got a yellow 99t reg gt. Had it lowered cos it handled like a boat. Keeps goin wrong all the time but i'd never get rid. Once you own one you'll find it hard to part with it.

personally, i'd go for the GT3 (1998/99) model. much more torque, better brakes, better drivability, nicer interior etc...and you're much more likely to find an un-molested one:D

wake up and see the light! www.puntoforum.co.uk

yea its tidy mate ill post some pics if your interested mate?
let me know, also i will NOT be molesting it with anything not even a exhaust as theyre becoming so rare especially in polar white only seen one and thats on ebay at the mo its a top car im in love with it cant stop boosting everywhere!
