One of my fog lamps has gone (Y reg HGT Abarth) and needs replacing. I've been told that you have to remove the front bumper to get to the headlamp unit to change the bulb. Is this correct? If so, is this covered on the Punto Haynes manual?

Just looked in the haynes, to get to the normal bulbs (side/head/indicators) u just unclip the black part behind the front lights under the bonnet. Doesnt say anything about changing the foglights. But it does say to remove the front light cluster, see 'removing the front bumper' so yep the bumpers gotta come off if you cant get to foglight bulb from under the bonnet

On mk1 you can open a hatch in the wheelarch. But I atleast think its easier to go to a DIY garage where I can lift the car up and just change the bulbs. Here it cost like 3-4£ for half an hour, well spent money :)

you can also loosen the headlamp mountings and pull out the whole thing as in the mark II the right-hand side lamp is really hard to get at due to the relay box sitting on top of it, and the left hand side fog light is no easier.

The trouble is that you will throw out your headlamp alignment, so it might be best to do it early in the morning and then get the headlamps checked.

your best bet is to take the whole headlight assembly out, i cant see any other way to do it.
your headlight alignment will probably be out afterwards, so take it to an mot garage, its a 1 minute job to realign them, or use your garage wall and use chalk to mark where your headlights come upto, but park at least 4 metres away from the wall. the adjustments are done by turning the white hex screw on top of the unit.

when i removed my headlights i had to take the bumper off.it has about 15 screws/bolts that secure it.

it'll probably take 2 hours!
