Hi, i currently have a 1.4 8v petrol punto evo gp and i have started to increase my milage considerably and are looking for a 1.6 diesel engine. i have finally came to my two finalists, the fiesta zetec s and a punto evo multijet. the multijet seems to be winning in my mind but i would like other peoples perceptions on it. Reliability of cars is a big issue and i have already had a leaky pipe in mine at 10k miles... not big but still. Any input would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi !

Before the Punto I have had a Fiesta ST mk6 for 5 year. I had a lot of problem with it : water pump at 60kkm, broken front right suspension spring at 80'000, leaking AC condenser (imagine the price of it), sometimes rough idle at cold (never found a solution), rust appear after 4 years (I live in middle mountain).
Good thing was the engine, very well balanced and like to rev it. Gearbox was the best I drove.

The mk6 diesel has a lot of serious problems with turbo. This is a Peugeot/Citroen engine and insufficient lubrication for turbo result in early a death of it (60/100 kkm). Turbo seal on intake side is weak, too.

This is not a bad car at all, but I think Fiat is better in diesel than Ford. Build quality is not so good in Fiesta, not better than Punto.
Gearbox is a lot better in Fiesta, to be honest :)

Good choice

Thank you for your reply! I am actually looking at a mk7 fiesta zetec s? any difference?:)

But i think fiat diesels are a good choice.

its between a mk7 fiesta and a punto evo multijet 1.6 so like 2010 onwards :)

Ok, I dont know the Mk7 really because I jumped from Mk6 to Punto.

The Fiesta Mk7 still have a Citroen/Peugeot engine but the reliability seems a lot better.

But if you like the Punto, I think Fiat is better in diesel engine (and in Engine at all). They have a lot of knowledge on it, they are at the base of Common Rail injection.
Know problems on Punto diesel is generally FAP or EGR related; if you make a lot of km this should not happen.

The look of the Fiesta is quite good too, but the Punto is finest (but this is very personal ;) )

Ah thank you guys!! I will take on board what you're saying!! Test drive soon!
