I have just bought an old but low mileage Punto. It is a 2004 but registered in 2005 so i'm not sure if it is a Mk 1 or Mk2. It is an automatic with semi manual operation. I have a manual for the radio and the gear usage but nothing for the various dashboard and floor switches.
There is a +/- slider called "mode" but I have no idea what it is for.
Also, I have a fob key that opens the door remotely but will not start the car. Any ideas what I need to do to fix that without spending £250 for a new key?

Sounds a bit iffy

If the remote unlocks the car but the key doesn’t start it, does that mean it’s had a new ignition barrel and if so why?

2004 register in 2005 will be a mk2b after this the punto became the Grande Punto

You can buy a blank remote key to transfer the electronics from your existing remote key for about 5 pounds on ebay. You then need to get the key cut and have a transponder fitted.

I am fairly sure a good auto electrician can supply a coded transponder at a reasonable price

There is a light on the dash, looks like a padlock, does it come on and go out when you turn the ignition on,if so it is not a key issue. If it stays on,it will need further investigation as to why it won’t go out.
