I’ve got a bit of an issue with my 2003 Punto. While driving the engine cuts out Rev counter drops to zero and the MIL fault light comes on the engine then picks up and starts driving again.
This issue was very intermittent at first with the light flashing on and very short loss of power. The issue is getting much more frequent and for longer periods maybe 2 - 3 seconds
I’ve also experienced this when stationary and revving the engine 2000-3000 rpm
Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated

1. Sounds like basic electrical problem. Camshaft sensor (and/or phonic wheel damaged, has "runout") or others, connections failing etc.
2. If there is a CheckEngine...check what's the fault code.
3. If basic checks (OBD2, multimeter, continuity) will not help, you need real car electrician (one that uses an oscilloscope daily).

Thanks for response. I’ve ordered a basic code reader hopefully that might give me an indication.

Wrong. Buy proper OBD2 interface (like ELM327 for example) + Fiat specific software (FES, or MES).
Universal code erasers are useless (you can't analyze live parameters, perform resets and adaptations, tests).
