Hello!

Is the 1800 cc swap (Barchetta engine) a common swap?

One friend wants to do that.

Should be simplier than 2.0, no engine mounts fabrication needed, also should be good for turbo to 250-300 hp (don't know about internals, if only pistons are enough). Engines are cheaper that tjets, this is good too, and even NA the power isn't bad (130hp).

Never saw accidentaly someone that done this, so nobody likes it?

Oh yes you have!

The barchetta motor is the HGT motor which is essentially the Alfa/FIAT 1.8 lump, as fitted to the 155.

Alfa did manage to get very decent power out of the 2 litre version, but only after a lot of work, and they were said to be one race only engines.

No reason for FIAT to ever think of a forced induction version: they had the lampredi 2 litre from the Integrale for the Turbo (Alfa used it too in the 155 Q4) and replaced that with the 20v 5 cylinder lump.

My guess is that you'd need forged pistons and probably less lumpy cams, forged rods, too.

The Alfa 155 2 litre lump should fit (essentially the same engine).

Remember to change the cam belt and check the oil level!

Thanks for the answers. I see that's not common, but I think it's a good solution because the power is decent even with N/A, can be tuned a little bit also without big expensive. On closed block it can be turboed too, low pressure of course.

The very very very good thing is that you don't need to create engine mounts like for 2.0 turbo, and the gearboxes and driveshafts ar not a problem too.

In theory, I like it :) :yum:

Will see what will do the guy and which will be his impressions. For me, I'm still sure to want a 1.2 8v turbo hehehehe :slayer:
