According to SWMBO, this 'protection system' warning light came on as soon as she started the car this morning (1.2 Panda Dualogic), she drove a few hundred yards and it stayed on, so she parked up and cadged a lift from a neighbour.

The manual says it means the CODE immobiliser isn't working and that all the keys need to be memorised at the dealer.

I tried a few times this evening, with both keys, but the warning light didn't appear for me. Typical!

Is it OK to drive the car like this? Does it just mean the engine immobiliser isn't working? If so, how did she manage to start it?

In the past we've also had the 'gearbox failure' warning light come on once, but never since. And a few days ago there was no activity or lights whatsoever when trying to start, until she took the key out completely and re-inserted it, when all was fine. Are these just Italian electronics glitches or should take them more seriously?

Thanks.

I have had this light come on a few times, then when you turn the engine off and back on it goes away.

When you look in your hand book it will say 'take car to dealer' or somehting along them lines.

After this happened a few times i took my car to the dealer and they ended up replacing the egnition barrel?? (not streight though!! still annoys me!) the light hasnt been on since they did that. so maybe you should take it to them see what they say
