Prolonging 1.2 g/box life?

- As above really.

Sis-In-Law's 37K-old Brava 80SX is starting to beat it's synchro on 2nd gear when changing down the box.

Nothing serious yet, but I'm considering changing the transmission oil to try and help prolong it's life for as long as possible.
Car is standard and dos'nt get ragged at all, but is subject to 'newly qualified driver' type of abuse, lol

I'm assuming the oil has'nt been changed from new, although it does have full FIAT s/history.


Any ideas from you 1200 experts as to what make/grade of oil has worked best in these weakish Brava/o's boxes?
Normally what FIAT recommmends is the safest option, but someone on here may have discovered something better...

change it for a punto sporting 6 speed box, you will be better off in the long run and they are realtively cheap now

Thanks for the tip, but the whole point is that I'm trying to prolong the life of the current 'box so that hopefully it dos'nt have to be changed...
