Technical Problems with Marea Weekend heating up?

Hi all,

Wonder if anyone can help.

I have a P Reg Fiat Marea Weekend 1.6 16v, since I had the timing belt changed many months ago, I’ve had problems with the bottom flywheel/pulley that is connected to the timing belt. About a week ago, the bolt for the flywheel/pulley in question came lose and the car cut out. I had it towed back to the garage I had the timing belt done and these fixed this by putting a new bolt in it and some thread lock. Since then, my temperature gauge in and around town is sitting at about half way, with the fan cutting in around there and the level driving down the motorway isn't much better. Also my fuel "appears" to be going down quicker, although I may just noticing this as I’ve been using the car to move house.

Anyone any idea what would cause the temperature to go like this?
I would take it back to the garage but as I’ve moved, he’s over 30 miles away now!

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

No belt never came off, but car cut out and wouldn't start again. The garage said it wouldn't have been able to start again cause the "pick up" for the spark is on the pulley/flywheel? would that be right?

Any ideas?

Just so I'm clear, is this a higher or lower temperature than what you're used to? If the car doesn't ever get as hot as it used to, and the fuel consumption is worse, it could be that the thermostat is faulty, so your engine stays colder for much longer than usual.
If the car is getting hotter than it used to, the thermostat could be stuck closed, or your radiator could be blocked.
Or alternatively, the gauge could be faulty.

The temperature is higher, but only after the car was in the garage after the flywheel blot came lose! could be be something they have done? possibly a value thats shot after this or something? Anyone?

seems very strange as you wouldnt really expect that to cause temp probs. could just be a coincidence and you need to look at the normal causes of hot running.

Hi,

Someone said that if the timing went away out when the bolt came lose, then one of the valves/pistions might be damaged, and hence the engine heating up and pulling more full?!?! could this be true or is that c**p?

could be totally true im afraid,though i would have hoped your garage would have brought this up and not just bodged it.
basically your cam/timimng belt connects the top and bottom halves of the engine and keeps them in 'time' though if the timimng was out i would expect you to notice poor running as well
